FSPCA (IAVA) Intentional Adulteration Conducting Vulnerability Assessments Course

1 Day, 7 Hour Course, Eastern Time Zone

This live-virtual instructor-led course is designed to teach individuals the requirements for conducting a vulnerability assessment under the Mitigation Strategies to Protect Food Against Intentional Adulteration (IA) regulation of the FDA.

The goal of the IA rule (21 CFR 121) is to prevent acts of intentional adulteration intended to cause wide-scale harm to public health. Become qualified to conduct vulnerability assessments using the Three Elements Method during this one-day session which incorporates examples and exercises as part of the curriculum.

Students will learn how to:

  • conduct a vulnerability assessment using the Three Elements Method
  • identify significant vulnerabilities
  • determine actionable process steps

Upon successful completion, a student will earn an AFDO-issued certificate.

Students must provide a form of photo ID and have their webcam on for the entirety of the course to receive their certificate.

About The Instructor

Kara Scherer heads up Food Safety at Dennis Group, the largest global food and beverage design-build firm. She holds a Bachelor of Science in microbiology, as well as a minor in biochemistry and molecular biology from Pennsylvania State University.

Dennis Group’s Food Safety Department is responsible for regulatory support and hygienic design compliance for all design-build projects. In addition to supporting Dennis Group’s expert engineers, she offers an array of food safety services.
